Accommodation

There are several accommodation options available in Akitio.

Akitio Retreat

Description

  • Close to the Akitio Beach AND River
  • Spacious well appointed house. Quality linen. Massive dining table
  • Something for all ages. Safe. Private.

The house is very close to the Akitio river and only 2kms to the Akitio beach. A well fenced, spacious section would be perfect for busy young families and the Akitio Retreat caters for this brilliantly. Because the house faces north, the sun pours in all day. Off the deck is a large lawn.

If you're unlucky enough to strike bad weather, the house is easy to warm with the woodburner and there's an abundance of firewood.

Sky TV. Spark and Vodofone reception.

For those quiet times, there are plenty of games, books, a TV and stereo with a connection for an iPod. There are some DVDs and CDs but you are welcome to bring your own.

Adjacent the house is a large garage for storage of any "toys" for the beach and river.

The river is great for swimming, water skiing, kayaking (flat water), drag netting for flounder or fishing for kahawai at the river mouth.

The beach has safe swimming and is sought after by surfers. Its easy to launch a long line off the beach and fish seem easy to catch.

Should you want to launch a boat, the best place is adjacent the Akitio boat club. For a small fee you can use the Boat club tractor to launch your boat.

On a windy day the beach is long enough to have fun with land yachts.

Forgotten something? There is a small store that sells everything. It has a liquor licence and also sells takeaway food. Check it out.

NOTE: There is NO fuel sold at Akitio so fuel up in Dannevirke.

There is a sealed road all the way from Dannevirke to the coast.

From Hawkes Bay, the best way to Akitio is via Dannevirke not via Porangahau as per Google Maps. The Rural Rapid Number for the Retreat is 2503.

Keen of golf? Cape Turnagain is a 9 hole golf course at Herbertville, north of Akitio and they welcome visitors.

If you are keen on mountain biking or tramping on the Station please enquire.
